Raised in California and transplanted to Utah. Married my college sweetheart from Montana, and we are raising 4 nuggets together. I love all things DIY projects and doing them on a budget. I don’t mind messing up and am ok with the 90/10 rule - nothing is perfect over here and it’s fine by me! Encouraging all ‘wanna-be’ DIYers to just get out there and try it! You will be so glad you did.”
After a hard season of distance and separation, our home is ready to start having family and friends over again. Our dining room space has seen a lot of love over the years and was ready for a facelift. Creating a simple dining room space with Walmart Home for hosting dinner parties is a great way to help people feel welcomed and comfortable.
I am partnering with Walmart to share some of my favorite products that we used to recreate our dining room space this season. This area is a small nook right outside the kitchen and for years I have had 1970’s chairs that went with my 1977 childhood table (which my daughter and I refinished).
I am keeping my dining room table but chose to update everything else during the process. My goals in creating a simple dining room for hosting dinner parties was:
In just a few simple steps, you can create a dining room space you love with Walmart Home – let me show you.
First and foremost you will pick out your rug. This will set the tone and style for the rest of your dining room area. I wanted a soft rug that was over 9 by 7 feet and hid dirt well.
There are tons of options online at Walmart.com to choose from and I found the perfect one. The Safavieh Rag Robynne Striped Area Rug from Walmart comes in 20 different sizes (yes I said TWENTY!) and has a lots of colors to choose from. I grabbed the Gray 8×10 rug for $144 (this is a great price for this size of rug).
It lays very well and has small tassels at the end that aren’t too long.
After having short back chairs for 7 years, my main goal was to find a classy high back chair that was comfortable to sit in. Additionally I wanted to add some depth to the dining room with two different styles of chairs. Walmart Home has so many to choose from online that I actually spent an entire evening searching their website and adding chairs to my cart.
I picked the ACME Renske Black Wooden Mission Dining Chair (comes in a set of 2) and the Campbell Rattan Wicker Stained Finish Dining Chair with Mahogany Hardwood Frame in Salak Brown. I wanted to be brave and mix brown and black color schemes and I loved that way it turned out.
These chairs shipped quickly and were easy to put together. I love the real wood and how sturdy they are.
Currently this area was FILLED with decor and I was looking for a way to simplify the space. Faux Olive Trees are very popular and are a simple but elegant statement piece.
The Nearly Natural 82 inch Olive Artificial Tree from Walmart had great reviews and looked very real.
I removed wall decor and placed the tree in the corner and loved the way it settled the room.
Finally, I was looking for a tablescape setting that was easily removable when guests arrive but looks classy and current. There were tons of home decor pieces in store and online at Walmart Home. It took a bit of sifting through all my ideas to land on the items I wanted.
These are the items I used to create a simple but modern tablescape space:
These neutral pieces that will last me forever and can be used over and over again.
I transitioned this space in just an afternoon and it turned out exactly how I wanted. The price points were perfect, the quality is awesome, and the shipping was super quick.
Partnering with Walmart was a highlight for me because I absolutely love their brand and the quality they provide. Who knew they had so many beautiful pieces for the dining room space? Creating a Simple Dining Room for Hosting Dinner Parties was a breeze!
