Raised in California and transplanted to Utah. Married my college sweetheart from Montana, and we are raising 4 nuggets together. I love all things DIY projects and doing them on a budget. I don’t mind messing up and am ok with the 90/10 rule - nothing is perfect over here and it’s fine by me! Encouraging all ‘wanna-be’ DIYers to just get out there and try it! You will be so glad you did.”
We recently added a small seating area to the side of our home behind the garden, and I decided it needed some lighting to go along with it. Let me show you how to easily install outdoor lights on a budget, in just one afternoon!
For this project, I did not want to deal with concrete or adding permanent posts. I wanted something simple, affordable and pleasing to the eye.
First, I used three landscape timbers and attached them to the top of the fence posts using cable ties. On the other side, I attached the timber to the gutters using cable ties as well. To secure the bottom, I hammered 2-foot rebars into the ground to help hold them in place.
Now that the posts are secure, the next step is to attach the outdoor lights. I wanted to use lights that were weather resistant and were durable; I found these solar powered string lights and I absolutely love them. To Install the lights, I drilled and screwed the solar panels on top of the timber attached to the fence side. I made sure the panels were facing up to the sky so they can charge during the day. On the other side, I installed hooks to the top of the timber using screws. I then hanged the lights evenly going in a zig-zag pattern.
I am so happy with how this project turned out. It was easy to install, it was affordable and it only took one afternoon to do. This is a simple DIY project and I know you can create a space like this in your home!
