Raised in California and transplanted to Utah. Married my college sweetheart from Montana, and we are raising 4 nuggets together. I love all things DIY projects and doing them on a budget. I don’t mind messing up and am ok with the 90/10 rule - nothing is perfect over here and it’s fine by me! Encouraging all ‘wanna-be’ DIYers to just get out there and try it! You will be so glad you did.”
(NOTE:Â When I wrote this post a few years ago, lumber was under $3 for a 2×4 – but now things have changed!
We needed more storage space for our food, so I decided to turn a bedroom into a pantry! I had a vision of creating a pantry/homework/mud room on a budget, so I researched different pantry shelves I could buy and came up with a budget-friendly design on my own that I could build.
The final plans for this DIY Pantry Shelf, made from 2×4’s, is finally here! After I built the shelf, I knew I needed some help from a graphic designer to create plans I could share. I collaborated with Ashley Basnight from HandmadeHaven who helped me create digital plans that you to follow. She is amazing! Make sure to pin these graphics so you can use them later.
The entire step-by-step project is linked to her Handmade Haven Blog Series here. I created the project and she created the plans – we made such a great team. I added a Youtube video of the process at the end of this post as well if you would like to watch it!
Everything you will need for this project is listed below! Then head over to Handmade Haven for the steps to get it done!

LOVE, thanks for sharing!
Yah! Glad you liked it, I appreciate you being here!
2×4’s are about $5 at the moment but with a few tweaks I was able to make my own 1/2 size version of this shelf for about $30.
I agree they are so expensive right now! I love that you figured out some tweaks!
