Love you board and batten wall! One question though….did you have to caulk the lines between the thin boards and the wall before painting?

    • So glad you are here! So originally I was going from but I was able to get the boards pretty flush with the wall and since I painted it a dark blue it was really hidden. So I didn’t end up caulking. Which saved so much time!

  2. Tina says:

Hi! It’s so beautiful! I love that blue. Question, what is the wall color you have with the blue?
    Thank you!

What were your three workout quotes you used? Thinking of doing something similar!

  4. Jillson says:

Did you have the quote pictures made or buy them??

    • Showit User says:

I picked the quotes and had them made. The website is listed at the bottom of the post and is called The Handmade Sign Company. Their website is http://www.thehandmadesignco.com and the code CITYGRIL15 should still be live to get a discount. Let me know if that helps!

Thank you for giving all of us a great look at the process. May I ask, do you happen to know the exact mdf you used? I’ve been looking on Home Depot’s site and there are so many. I am unsure which you used.

    • Showit User says:

It was the 1×3 mdf board that has straight edges (not rounded). Sorry I do not know if it has an exact name. I have done three walls like this and used another board I loved as well. It is called “bender board” and you can ask them at Home Depot to show you what it is.

Looks amazing- I’m about to do this in my master but I’m hesitant because my walls have some texture. Were your walls completely flat?

    • Showit User says:

Hey Lisa!! So we had alittle bit of texture and it was just fine. If you don’t want to show any texture, you can add a thin MDF board first, then add the boards. Or you can flatten the texture with skim coating. I hope this helps!

  8. Lyn says:

Are your baseboards 1” thick? Or are the boards flush with your baseboards? This has been my curiosity with board and batten, because my baseboards are only about 1/4” thick.

    • Showit User says:

Hello! Thank you for stopping by! My base boards have a small curve at the top and end up being 1/4 inch thick. So I have done this a few ways – angle the bottom of the board and batten all in at the bottom so it matches, or just add it and leave it be – right on top of the baseboard. Since most of my bottom spaces are covered up it really doesn’t bother me. I hope this helps!

What sheen of paint did you use, flat, eggshell, etc…?

    • Showit User says:

Hello! I like to use eggshell, not too flat and not too shiny!

What is the texture of your background wall? I’m wanting to do this in my home, but I’m afraid the textured wall will look odd behind the wood planks.

    • Showit User says:

Mine is lightly textured and I think it looks great still. You could also add thin MDF board first and then the boards and paint it? Good luck!

  18. Jennifer says:

Hi. Love this. I have been researching and just about to do this to my bedroom. The concerns I have are 1. I have high ceilings and angled. Trying to figure out a design that I can do with that and 2. Where to start. You mentioned middle piece, is that the middle of the board and where the middle of the room is?

    • Showit User says:

Hey Jennifer! I have high vaulted ceilings too and it so hard!!!! I would pinterest ideas to help you. Yes I mean the middle board and also the longest one. This will give you a base of where to start. The nice thing is you can place it where you want it to be!

  19. EK says:

Did you caulk where the boards meet the wall? Tutorials I have seen always suggest that and it seems like it would take forever, so I have avoided doing this type of wall, but yours looks great. 🙂

    • Showit User says:

Hello! Yes most tutorials tell you to do that, but I was the same and did not want too, so I didn’t! Its been 4 years now and it looks perfect, so I think the dark blue color hid it really well!
