Do It Yourself – Plumbers Pipe TP Holder

Plumbers Pipe is a great look for any industrial style bathroom.  Let us show you how easy it is to create a Plumbers Pipe Toilet Paper Holder – there are so many styles to choose from.  Check out these ones we love:

One of our clients loved #8, so we got to work to create it for her.  Come follow along and see how easy it is!

As always, here is a 60 second DIY Tutorial for you to review, then keep reading along for all the details!

First off, we always tell people that plumbers pipe is NOT CHEAP.  It was made for heavy duty plumbing, not decor.  Recently at The Home Depot they told me that long ago they sold decor style plumbers pipe, but it didn’t sell well, so they got rid of it.  BUMMER!  So we are still on the look out for a company who sells it at a discount – we will keep you posted on our finds.

Ready to get started?  Here is what you will need:

Materials Needed:

  • One 3/4 inch flange
  • One 3/4 inch end cap
  • Two 3/4 inch street elbows
  • Two 3/4 inch 90 decree elbows
  • One 3/4 inch nipple pipe, 6 or 8 inches long (depending on how long you want your TP post)
  • Two 3/4 inch nipple pipe, 4 inches long
  • Acetone and cottonballs

You can purchase all of these items at The Home Depot hereWe use affiliate links with companies that we do business with for your convenience.

Tools Needed:

  • Apron (you will get dirty)
  • Your hands! he he he (wink wink)

Step One – Cleaning Your Pipe

This is the hardest part of the whole process.  Well, not necessarily hard, but time consuming.  I wrote a whole blog post about how to best clean your plumbers pipe here.  Basically you are using Acetone and cotton swaps to wipe it down and take all the grease off the piping.  I wrote about it all using photos below – you are welcome!

Step Two – Assembly

This part is super easy.  You just have to make it tight enough. I use my hands for this part, but be careful because the pipe can be sharp in some places and I have gotten paper cut style owies on my hands!  You could use a wrench if you wanted to.

Start with the flange and add each piece on as show in this photo.  This is the order:

  1. Flange
  2. Street Elbow
  3. Street Elbow
  4. 4 inch Nipple
  5. 90 Degree Elbow
  6. 4 inch Nipple
  7. 90 Degree Elbow
  8. 6 or 8 inch Nipple – End Cap

Your all done!  That was it!  We added a small 5 by 5 inch block of wood (stained with Varathane Weathered Gray) to mount it on before attaching it to the wall – just for character.  But you can mount this easily to a stud in the wall for a strong hold.

Add some TP and your ready to go!  Let us know how yours turns out – Happy Building!
